NORWICH GOLF CLUB INCORPORATED
February 1927
Although the first Norwich Golf Club was “organized” in 1903, today’s club was officially incorporated during the third week of February 1927.
The article shown on the right is a copy of an original newspaper article printed in the Norwich Bulletin on January 22, 1927. It states that the club voted to incorporate on Friday, January 21, 1927. The article identifies C. Royce Boss as the club’s President and three elected officials, Dr. Franklin S. Wilcox, John F. Rogers, and Edward W. McKay.
The reprint is provided to make the article more legible.
Best NGC Round Since 1987
September 7, 2015
On September 7, 2015, Steve Gambeski recorded a 62, the best round of golf at the Norwich Golf Course since 1987. He is an outstanding golfer who has won the Norwich Golf Club President’s Trophy and earned the honor of Norwich Golf Club Champion 10 times!
It is interesting that his final score of 9-under par was achieved with 10 birdies and one bogey. The bogey was on the first hole, which is the fourth easiest on the course. So … if you bogey the first hole …. don’t fret … you could still set the course record!
Upon review of his winning card, it is clear that the others in his foursome were also on fire. Two of them shot a 73, only 2 over par.
The best round ever was played by Ellsworth E. Chase Jr. on August 8, 1987. He scored a 61.
